Corporate and Commercial

Central and local government increasingly deliver policy in partnership with the private and voluntary sectors.  Support and infrastructure services too are supplied by the private sector, driven by the need to find efficiencies and drive down the public sector payroll.  As a consequence, government organisations have become participants in business transactions on an unprecedented scale.  These often involve sophisticated contractual relationships; often they are managed through the creation of new businesses: joint ventures, “spin-outs” and LIFT companies.

FFW’s continuing success in this field is unquestionably due to its ability to combine commercial acumen with a deep-rooted understanding of the public sector ethos, and its ability to assemble teams across disciplines, so that clients enjoy the services of lawyers with a public sector track record from every specialism.

FFW has been a leading adviser to government in this area for 20 years, from the privatisations of the 1980s to the creation of new businesses such as Actis LLP and the Forensic Science Service Ltd.. We have worked on key strategic projects for most major Government departments including HM Treasury, the Cabinet Office, the DTI, the Department for International Development, the Office of Government Commerce, the Home Office, the Department for Education and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and also bodies within the wider public sector such as  the Learning and Skills Council and Transport for London. Currently we are advising the Law Society of England and Wales on its restructuring following the Clementi Report and the Department for Trade and Industry on the creation of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.

For a confidential discussion of any issues in this area, without any obligation and free of charge, please contact Tim Davies on 020 7861 4000 or email tim.davies@ffw.com.
