Charles WhiddingtonCharles is a partner in our Competition and EU Group. Charles is dual qualified in the UK (1982) and US (admitted New York Bar 1984). Chambers Directory names Charles as a leading individual in competition law. Charles has written extensively on competition law matters including co-author of European Competition Laws – a Guide to the EC and its Member States (Matthew Bender) (4th Edition, 2004) and authorship of Antitrust and New Media (2000). He also contributed the chapter on public procurement law for the book E-Government: A Practical Guide to the Legal Issues (Sweet & Maxwell) (2004). He specialises in the competition law aspects of mergers, joint ventures, commercial agreements, computer and intellectual property, telecommunications, licensing, regulatory matters and state aids. In addition Charles advises on public procurement. On competition matters he recently acted for RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research Limited) in its High Court victory against Kelvin MacKenzie’s The Wireless Group plc. On procurement he has advised on numerous Government procurements including the Home Office on the Identity Cards Programme, UK Passport Agency on biometric passports and HM Treasury on a number of contracts.
